<description>Following is an email that was sent out to the SVSU community:

As most of you are aware, the campus has been under the media spotlight over the last few days in response to the discovery of blood and tissue membranes in a women's restroom in Curtiss Hall. Some of the information reported by the media has been inaccurate and misleading, so I am taking this opportunity to update the community directly regarding this investigation.

Tuesday evening, a custodial staff member found what might be described as a small amount of bloody material in a Curtiss Hall women's restroom. As is routine procedure in an incident of this type, the assistance of the State Police Crime Lab was requested to collect and analyze the tissue and blood samples. We also contacted Residential Life to determine if any residents were in need of medical attention.

The news media became aware of this situation when the Crime Lab was called in, and began immediate speculation about the possible explanation for this discovery. Students and others were even asked to speculate about the media's speculations.

The preliminary results of the Crime Lab analysis were made available to us this afternoon. It appears the bloody material was the result of an early term miscarriage by a person using the Curtiss Hall restroom.

There is no evidence of wrongdoing of any sort. Our concern now, as then, is that this person seek and receive appropriate medical attention.

If anyone is aware of someone who seems to have experienced personal distress during the past few days, please contact the University Police at 964-4141, or encourage that person to seek appropriate medical attention.
