Top 10 February 2004 Searches
At the end of each month, I plan to give a list of the top 10 keyword combinations (searches) that visitors have used in a search engine to get to my site. It’s not a popularity list, because “poker chip tricks” and every possible way to search for that would dominate my top 10. These are the funniest, weirdest, or craziest searches that have resulted in a visit to my site. (...)

Poker Champ
Played in a poker tournament tonight with some friends and a few people I had never met before. Thirteen people ended up playing. The entry was $20 per person and the top four places paid out. We played at two tables and I drew a spot at the table with 7 people. I started out the night with some pretty good cards and won a few pots the first time we went around the table. (...)

Playoff Win
We won the first playoff game tonight for basketball league by three points. It was a great game that went back and forth for both halves. I think the biggest lead of the game was six or eight points. At one point during the game, someone on their team yelled out, “We’re losing to a bunch of white boys.” That fired us up a little bit. (...)

Wolverine Spotted In Michigan
A biologist has confirmed the sighting of a real Michigan wolverine, about 200 years after the species was last seen in the state that uses the small but ferocious animal as its unofficial nickname. -Yahoo! News (...)

Site Changes
Over the past few days you may have noticed a few changes to the site. I removed the Shout Outs from the sidebar. I was the only one ever shouting so I figured it wouldn’t be missed. With them gone, the pages should load a little (fraction of a second) quicker. The other change is that I added a little hack next to the date/time of a post. (...)

GMT vs. UTC
Recent updates to the way dates and times are stored in the MySQL database by WordPress are causing quite a stir at the Support Forums. When I ran a few upgrades the other day, the new code had a lot of bugs, so my site hit the shitter for a bit. Everything is running smooth again though after a few more updates. (...)

Terrific Tuesday
It was a good day today. I don’t feel like typing much, so I’m going to keep this short. I had a 30 minute phone interview for a programmer/analyst position in Kalamazoo. I think it went pretty well. My new Norelco came in and I can’t wait to try it tomorrow morning. I called M that I met at the bar the other night. We had a nice little chat and are planning to go out. (...)

Backup!
Never underestimate the importance of a backup! I ran some upgrades to WordPress and all of my dates and times got screwed. I didn’t panic, but I restored a backup of my database, upgraded again, and then re-added all of the missing posts and comments since the last backup. If I would have backed up right before the upgrade (like I normally do) I would have saved a lot of time. (...)
This And That
Went out to an 80’s bar last night with a few friends and ended up staying until closing time. As a result I’m feeling a little “under the weather” today. The bar is pretty cool…they have a big screen TV that they play videos on while the song is playing, so you get the feeling that you’re back in the day, listening to some of the music we grew up on. (...)

Miracle
Great movie! I don’t know if I need to say any more than that. It’s just an awesome story and will forever be a part of history in the United States. The movie made me proud to be an American. I can’t pick a single thing from this movie that I would have changed. (...)
Take A Chance
The Mega Millions jackpot is estimated at $222 million. Wow! WIOG, a local radio station, is running a group lottery ticket, so I stopped by on my way to work and put in $1. They already had collected over $750 at around 8:15 this morning. I also stopped at 7-Eleven and bought my own $1 ticket. You can’t win if you don’t have a ticket… (...)

NESS
Not Enough Sleep Syndrome. I don’t know if such a thing exists, but I have it. I don’t get nearly enough sleep, especially during the week. Most nights I don’t get to bed until after midnight. Sometimes as late as 1:30 a.m. For those of you that don’t know, I start work at eight in the morning. Six or seven hours of sleep a night just doesn’t cut it. (...)
Fargo
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this movie, but it was pretty good. “Okay”….”Yah” For some reason it’s always entertaining to listen to what we (here in Michigan) call the UP accent. Fargo is based on a true story, but not in the usual sense of a true story brought to film. It wasn’t one of those feel good stories. (...)
New Toys
Today I bought a new electric razor on Ebay. I went with a Norelco Advantage 6737XB, since it’s one of the best models made my Norelco. My Remington just hasn’t been treating me too well anymore, so it was time for a change. Suprisingly I was the only person to bid on the auction. (...)
Linkage
I need to start cooking some more. Maybe some good recipes will help. I’m still not too sure about Orkut, but I’m checking my account more often now. If you want an invite, leave a comment and ask. Southwest Airlines has good rates on flights right now. I booked my mom’s flight with from Detroit to San Diego for a total of $295. (...)
Stat Line
About 20 points, 8+ rebounds, 5+ blocks, and 5+ steals to go along with 5+ turnovers and bad defense in the last few minutes. It’s hard to do it all I guess. We lost in overtime by one or two points. The refs are just so inconsistent in this league. At one end of the court the guy calls a good game, but then you play on the other end in the 2nd half and nothing seems to be a foul. (...)
No Go For Vegas
The training class I wanted to take in Las Vegas was canceled so I had to pick another city. I was really getting excited about going to Vegas too! Booked the class and reservations today and I’ll be heading to San Diego in about 2 and a half weeks. I could have went to Phoenix, AZ, but I’ve already been there before so I wanted to go somewhere new. (...)

Poker Patience
When you keep getting weak hands, patience is the key to playing poker. I played for 2 hours tonight and came out $8.60 ahead playing .25/.50 at a ten seat table. Usually I play 6 seaters, so this was a little bit different. I had to play a little bit tighter and watch myself. (...)

Play A Few Hands
It has been nearly a month since I played poker on UB, so I decided to play a little this afternoon. I played for an hour and a half at the .25/.50 cent tables and came out ahead by $1.80. I played 27% of the flops and won 13% of the hands, so overall I did pretty good. (...)

Comment SPAM Protection
I just installed a hack by Mark (Laughing Lizard) on my site to filter comments. Believe it or not, there are people out there that will visit blogs and post comments advertising viagra or other such things. This hack is designed to help prevent this from happening. If an address or certain words are recognized, the comment will be marked and will not appear until I allow it too. (...)

The Game
Last night was a great time! The beer started flowing at about 1:30p.m. and didn’t stop until sometimes around 11…I think. We got to Joe Louis Arena at about 2:15 and headed downstairs to the Olympia Club. Did you know that there is a private club underneath the ice? I didn’t either, but we had passes to get in. It was a sweet little bar and restaurant. (...)
The Best Wake Up Call Ever
I hate when people call at the ass-crack of dawn and wake me up on a weekend. But every once in awhile it’s for a good reason. Today is one of those days. My phone rang once as I lay in bed thinking, “I’m gonna kill whoever that is” or “They better be calling for something good.” They left a voicemail and then my phone rang again. (...)

I just finished upgrading the Photos section of the site to use Gallery 1.4.2. The only reason I upgraded was because they had found a pretty big security hole in the previous versions of the software. I didn’t feel like having someone hack into my web server. (...)

The Friday 5
The Friday 5 on Friday the 13th… Are you superstitious? Maybe a little bit. What extremes have you heard of someone going to in the name of superstition? I just don’t understand the whole sports thing with wearing the same socks or not shaving. What’s your favorite superstition? It’s seven years bad luck if you break a mirror. I think this one is so stupid! (...)

Running Linux
My new server, with Linux installed, is up and running. I’m making this post from it right now as a matter of fact. It will take me some time to get used to it and learn my way around. It’s been a few years since I’ve had a Linux box, so there is quite a bit new and different. If anyone knows any good sites for tutorials and configurations, let me know. (...)

From Dusk Till Dawn
Different. I’ve never seen a movie make a complete 180 so quickly. The movie is rolling along fine, actually pretty good and then all of the sudden you’re like, “What the hell just happened?!” It’s an older movie, from 1996, but was pretty good. The cast included Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Juliette Lewis, Salma Hayek, and Cheech Marin. (...)

Bookmarks And Favorites
For the purpose of this post, BF = bookmark/favorite. Most people use BFs in their browser to make it easy for them to browse their favorite websites with a single click. They also store the sites so that they don’t have to remember the lengthy addresses some sites have. Whoever invented them made it very easy for the rest of us. I use the Internet all the time for everything. (...)

Halo 2 Update
Bungie has finally released some details about the much anticipated sequel to Halo, which in my opinion is the greatest game ever created for any console. Halo 2 will ship in Fall, 2004. Please make a note of it. Read the full release. They have also released the first ever multiplayer screenshot from Halo 2 and it looks SWEET! Now I’m all excited just thinking about it. (...)

Hack Attack
I felt like I just got done playing in a Gus Macker. The team we played didn’t do anything but reach in the whole game and there was only one ref so he didn’t see much. My arms are red from all the smacks they took. They only had 5 players, but ended up with like 22 fouls. Can you explain to me how a few people didn’t foul out? (...)

The List
On my way to work this morning I was listening to WIOG and they were discussing their lists, which has prompted me to create my own list here on my site. What is a list? Well, if you could pick anyone in sports, movies, television, modeling, etc. who would be the top 5 people you would want to hook up with? (...)
Underworld
I had mixed feelings when I saw previews for Underworld. Sometimes the vampire movies are good and sometimes they are horrible, but this one turned out to be OK. Kate Beckinsale did a good job as the lead roll, playing the vampire caught up in the middle of a war between the vampire and werewolf races. She falls in love with a werewolf, which causes quite a controversy in the vampire coven. (...)
Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla has released a new preview of their next generation browser. Version 0.7 was called Firebird and 0.8 is now called Firefox. I use it as my main browser. If you are a web developer, the Web Developer and EditCSS extensions are must haves. Some of the other extensions I use are CuteMenus and Tabbrowser. Try it out, I’m sure you’ll love it! (...)

Once Upon A Time In Mexico
I wasn’t too sure about this movie when I saw the previews, but thought I’d watch it since a friend let me borrow it. To tell you the truth, I didn’t care for it. It’s not a horrible movie, but nothing spectacular either. One viewing is plenty for me. The acting was good, but the story just wasn’t believable. (...)

Radio
When I first saw the commercials on TV for this movie, I knew it was one I wanted to see. It has high school sports, a coach known by everyone in a small town, and a good story. That usually makes for a good movie. I didn’t get the chance to see it in the theaters, so I bought the DVD as soon as it was released. Today I finally made some time to watch it. (...)
Still Alive
After the bad news yesterday I decided to get drunk. If you ask anyone that was with me last night, I think they would tell you that I succeeded. I must have drank enough beer to kill a small horse! On the way home, I was even lucky enough to hang my head out the window and puke on Heather’s car. I’m actually feeling pretty good today. (...)

Duke vs. North Carolina. The greatest rivalry in college basketball. Tonight’s game was at North Carolina and it was an awesome game. It was a great game to watch and will be an ESPN Instant Classic. (...)

A New Puter
I ordered a new computer today from Dell. They have a pretty sweet deal going on right now for a server. It has a free upgrade from a Celuron processor to a Pentium 4 2.26 GHz, comes with a 40 GB hard drive, and all the basics. It doesn’t come with any software, but I plan to install Linux on it, so that’s not a big deal. (...)

911

On Fire
We had another game for basketball league tonight. The opposing team scored 25 points and yours truly had 21 himself. We beat them 32-25. As a team we played pretty horrible, as you can tell by the lack of scoring by the rest of the team. But that is what a superstar is for…right? My shot was dead on tonight and it felt great. (...)
Super Bowl XXXVIII
The Super Bowl is today, but I’m not all that thrilled about it. I’m not a fan of the teams, but I don’t hate them either. I would have liked to see Payton Manning and the Colts make it to the big show, but the cold New England weather did them in against the Patriots. I guess I’ll root for the Panthers simply because they are the underdogs. (...)

On Empty
I swear that I’m obsessed with driving my car until I’m on E. I won’t pull into a gas station unless that little orange light comes on telling me that I soon might be stranded without gas. Am I the only one who does this? It’s not like I do it on purpose, I just never really notice my gas gauge until the orange warning light comes on. (...)
