The Photos Are Missing
They weren’t kidnapped, I just got fed up with using Gallery to manage my photos, so I ditched it. I’ve found something that looks pretty sweet and should be a nice replacement. Markku is developing a PHP-based application for publishing photos and I like the looks of it. He is either caling it iPAP or SPAM, I’ve seen it called both in different places. Personally I like iPAP better…SPAM is used for too many other bad things, such as that nasty canned “meat” and the flood of messages in my INBOX. Now if only I could get my hands on a test version of his software.
Look for the photos to be back up and running when I get back from my trip.

Quote from markku:
SPAM stands for “SPAM: Photo Album Publisher”, in the PHP recursive acronym tradition.
Oh and here is my SPAM review
I think it’s worth waiting ’til there is a public release.

The current version that I (and MaThIbUs, and a few others) use is good enough for public use, especially if you have a bit of background in PHP. Email me so I can send you a copy.

I’ll have plenty of photos to try out with it when I get back from my trip!

I’m sticking with Gallery until they put their new Gallery version out. Supposed to XHTML and all that jazz.

That does look very similar. I’ll have to check that out and compare them.

Well, it turns out that both SPAM and PhotoStack are not far along enough in development for what I need. They both produce awesome photo albums, but the problem is that you need to resize your images before uploading them to the server. For instance, when I was using Gallery, I would upload a full size picture from my digital camera, and it would be resized on the fly. The thumbnail and the larger image would be created and the full (1 MB+) photo that I had uploaded would be deleted. Creating these “downsized” images on my own before uploading would be a Royal PITA, especially when I have over 100 photos from Sacramento that I want to upload.
