MDV Archive
Want a better archiving system for WordPress? You may remember the old MtDewVirus archives system, but this is much better. The new theme system makes it possible. You can see it in action on the archives here at MtDewVirus and get the files at the MDV Archive page.

Echo comment #1. They look a bit like Rob’s archives. Nice to see you released the code!

The initial archives page does, but start browsing through the archives. They are VERY different!

I just installed your archives files on a blog that I maintain for a buddy - byron-harvey.com
The archive page has no style applied to it and has this error at the top of the page:
I’m not sure if it is just something with the particular theme he is using - quentin - or if I have managed to do something wrong. I have used them on a couple of other blogs (with different themes) and not had any trouble.
And I waas also wondering what I need to do to get them displayed in the different sections like you have - by the month, by the category, etc.

Paul,
Did you download the file or copy the text? The most common cause of the “headers already sent” message is extra blank lines/spaces before <?php or after ?>
Once you get MDV Archive working, it will be used for all of your archive views.

I think I have it working on a basic level on at least a couple of his themes now.
Apparently the problem was with a couple of other plugins I had for him:
jVisitors
Who Is Online?
Something about the tag that had to go up above the header for them to work was causing problems with the archives file. I just deleted out those two plugins and the session tag for them and now it seems to work.

I guess, on further checking, that I don’t have a clue as to how to make this work. I keep getting call to unknow function errors.
Is there some part of the template that I have to change to make this work? Or anything to add to the code?
And on Quentin theme, even with those two plugins removed, I’m still getting the error. Somehow the theme doesn’t seem to understand the call for the header down near the end of the archive file.

Ok I think what I have figured out is that I don’t know what to put in place of
''And also how to actually make an archives page. If I create a new page called “Archives”, what do I actually put in it to make it display the archives?

I guess the code quick tags don’t actually let me insert code either?
Here (I hope) is the code that I don’t know what to replace with:

Paul, this is a drag and drop file. You don’t need to do anything. Put it in your theme and you’re set. It sounds like your theme is giving you problems because it’s set up differently. Shoot me an email at my contact page, because none of your code is coming through in the comments.
