What is a “Hoya”?

Published on Thursday, April 12th, 2007 at 12:47pm.

While watching Georgetown during March Madness this year, the question came about their nickname and “What is a Hoya?” We thought it might be some type of bulldog, but after looking it up, I don’t quite feel so stupid for not knowing what a Hoya actually is. No one really knows. (...)

If It Ain’t Rough, It Ain’t Right

Published on Thursday, June 1st, 2006 at 9:01am.

The Detroit Pistons once again showed their toughness last night, winning game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Miami Heat still hold a lead in the series at 3-2, but the pressure is now on them to win game 6 on their home court. Everyone knows the Miami doesn’t want to end up in a game 7 back at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Detroit doesn’t lose in those types of games at home. (...)

A Sporting Thanksgiving

As posted previously, I attended a few professional sports events over the Thanksgiving holiday. Last Wednesday (Nov. 23) my parents left Rogers City bright and early. Magical Madness

Blue March

My favorite college basketball team, the Duke Blue Devils, won the ACC tournament today for the 6th time in the last 7 years (lost the title game in OT last year). Super Bowl Weekend

Published on Monday, February 7th, 2005 at 11:26pm.

My Super Bowl weekend couldn’t have started out any worse. On the ride up to Rogers City I hit a porcupine and it cracked up my front bumper. I’m going to try to get it fixed without replacing it. Only One OT

Published on Thursday, December 16th, 2004 at 2:12pm.

We had our second basketball game last night. It only went into one overtime and we came out on top by 1 point. The way we started the game I thought we were going to blow them out. Of course our shooting went cold, almost as cold as my cards have been in poker over the past 3 weeks. We were losing at the half and finally caught back up. (...)

Hoop It Up

Had our first township basketball league game tonight. We lost in the third overtime to a 3 pointer at the buzzer. Our team had 6 guys and they had at least 10. Each of their players were younger than ours. We were down by 12 points at halftime. We should have never gotten back into the game. We will only get better as the season progresses and we get a few more of our players. (...)

Disturbing News Items

The End Of March Madness

March Madness came to an end last night with the University of Connecticut winning the championship over Georgia Tech. It wasn’t much of a game as UConn led the whole way and the 82-73 final score only looks somewhat close because GT hit about a million three pointers in the final minute. Not to discredit the UConn win, but GT didn’t play very well in the game. (...)

Duke Beats UNC Again

Why are so many kids jumping straight from high school to the NBA these days? Is it because they are that good? About 20 points, 8+ rebounds, 5+ blocks, and 5+ steals to go along with 5+ turnovers and bad defense in the last few minutes. It’s hard to do it all I guess. We lost in overtime by one or two points.
