Busy Busy
New postings have been few and far between here at MDV for the past few months and especially during the last month. I’ve been extremely busy and having a lot of fun. The big secret (I sold pokerchiptricks.com) is out, went to Cedar Point, bought a black MacBook, have golfed a ton this summer, and just recently took a 5-night trip to Las Vegas. (...)
Performancing Metrics
Performancing came out with a free public beta of a blog tracking service earlier this week, called Performancing Metrics. I haven’t used it a very much yet, but it looks very promising. Most statistics services and packages are bloated with useless data. PM gives bloggers access to the data they’ll need most often and it works great. (...)

Big Error
I just found a missing { in single.php of my theme, which was causing all of my single post pages to error out. No wonder my Google traffic fell off the charts in the last couple of weeks and the number of comments I’ve received has been non-existent. All should be fixed now. (...)
nofollow is BAD for the Internet
If you run a WordPress site, I highly suggest installing the Dofollow plugin. If you don’t, you’re hurting the legimate commenters on your site. (...)

How big is blogging? A painted rock at my hometown high school has the word “blog” on it. (...)
A Service to Replace all Others
Yesterday I discussed my struggles to find a service for links and feeds. Today I found one. My Yahoo! Not only can I store all of my links/bookmarks and keep track of feeds, but there’s a ton of other information. In your My Yahoo! account you can create several different pages. I’ve created a total of four pages so far. My first page is called Main and has just a ton of information. (...)

Blogworthy
As you may have noticed, I haven’t been on a regular blogging schedule here on MtDewVirus. I didn’t feel all that great a few days this week and ended up taking 1.5 sick days. That doesn’t really have anything to do with my lack of blogging though. I’m not quite sure what it is. (...)
Read Feeds
Do you use a feed reader/service to keep track of blogs that you read? Currently I just jump on my sites and check the link list to see which sites have recently updated…pretty dumb way of doing it. I know there are countless sites out there that will store your blogroll and let you see which ones have updated recently. I want to know which are the best, so speak up… (...)

Blogiversary
1 YEAR! It was a year ago today that I made my first post here using WordPress. I want to give a special thanks to Matt who suggested the little known project of WP to me when I asked him about his web site. Also big thanks to the other main developers and contributors that make WP possible. I still remember installing version .7x. (...)

Fined For Blogging
Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, was fined by the NBA for comments he made on his blog. It just shows how dangerous and risky blogging really is. As bloggers, we risk our lives, reputations, and paychecks. </sarcasm> (...)

Blog Explosion: Explode your blog traffic! Seems like the latest thing in blogging… Will it survive? I doubt it! If it brings a few people to the site and they end up coming back because they like what they see, then I guess it’s worth it. (...)

Lack Of Posts
I know I haven’t been posting much lately, but I haven’t felt the creativity or had any big inspirations. I’ve been busy cleaning the house, biking, hanging out with friends, golfing, and of course working. Today I had my oil changed and found out that I need new front tires. This weekend I’m heading up to Rogers City for the long weekend (we have the 5th off). (...)

It’s Out!
The final release of WordPress 1.2 is available now. Get it while it’s hot! I’ve already upgraded my site. There are just a ton of new features and since they’ve been discussed elsewhere, I won’t waste my time trying to do it here. (...)
What I Look For In A Blog
How does a site make it into my Weblogs I Read link list? Friends This is the easiest way because I’m definitely going to read up on what my friends have to say. At the same time though, my friends can’t have a garbage site and expect me to visit often. Design You must have a good design. I don’t want to see 20 different colors of text. (...)

What’s In A Post Title?
The title of a post can be very important. A good title may catch a visitor’s eye and spark their interest to read the post. That reader may like what they read and become a regular visitor. A title relating to the post will rank highly with search engines because the post title is used as the page title and as an H1 HTML tag. (...)

The Digital Pimpress
The Digital Pimpress has been MIA for 2 months now. I used to read her blog daily for several reasons: She kept it real…all the time. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She’s smart and knew what she was talking about. She’s a very good looking geek. Her site was always interesting and worth reading. She was sick and all of the sudden disappeared. (...)

Too Geek Or Not Too Geek
Rands has an interesting blog and has made a couple of posts on what he calls Nerd Attention Deficiency Disorder or N.A.D.D. Read the first post and then the second post. It is quite interesting. I have N.A.D.D. and I think most geeks do, or need to, in order to be productive. It’s just what we do. (...)
