Quickie: 02/27/2008 12:04:06am
I’ve read 26 books by James Patterson since I started near the end of October 2007. I doubt I had previously read that many novels in my life. (...)

Quickie: 01/12/2008 9:10:08pm

Quickie: 01/11/2008 10:09:40pm
I hope Double Cross arrives tomorrow so I can finish off James Patterson’s Alex Cross series on my trip. In addition to reading up through Cross, I also read The Midnight Club and The Jester this week. (...)

Pistol: The Life of Pete Maravich
“Pistol” Pete Maravich was the greatest college basketball player to ever play the game. The “Pistol” was a guard and he averaged over 40 points a game throughout college before there was ever a 3 point line. He had a great shot and actually made a lot of shots which would have easily been worth 3 points in today’s game. (...)

Review: Deception Point
Dan Brown wrote another great book with Deception Point. I couldn’t put the book down once I started reading it and ended up finished all 550+ pages in a few days. That’s pretty good for me. I’d have to say that this is my second favorite (to The Da Vinci Code) book by Brown. (...)

Review: First Strike (Halo)
This book is the 3rd in the series and should be an enjoyable read for any Halo fan. First Strike tells the story that leads up the action experienced while playing the video game Halo 2. Master Chief is the main character as you might expect, but there are other Spartans as well as Cortana and a few others from the first two books. (...)

Review: Bringing Down the House
After reading the back cover of this book I knew I had to read it. Bringing Down the House is the story of how M.I.T. students beat the house. They took Las Vegas and other casinos around the country for millions of dollars. The book is one of the best I’ve ever read. It was one of those I couldn’t put down. (...)

Every Second Counts
As I’ve said before, he is the greatest American story of our lifetime. After reading his book you get an understanding of what makes him tick. He doesn’t have anything to lose, so he gives everything he’s got in everything he does. He faced death, battled it head-on, and kicked it’s ass! Everything after that is a bonus. (...)

Bankroll Experiment
While browsing around World Poker Tour Fan today I came across an interesting bankroll experiment. I might try out something similar after I get my new book. (...)

Amarillo Slim In A World Full Of Fat People
What a great read! The book is broken down into twelve chapters, each having their own theme. Then each chapter is broken down into a series of what are really short stories about Amarillo Slim (Thomas Austin Preston Jr.) and his adventures. You get to learn about Slim’s pool skills, how he started playing poker, and some of the craziest bets I’ve ever heard of. (...)

Day 2 In Philly
Today, in the first day of class, we covered a lot of material that I had already learned from classes I took during college, so it wa a little boring. After class, I waited for Lindsay to return from her trolley tour and then we headed off for some excitement. (...)

The Biggest Game In Town
The cover of this book by Al Alvarez quotes the London Evening Standard, “…probably the best book on poker ever written.” I’ve read other places online making similar claims and although I haven’t read every book on poker written, this has been the best I’ve turned a page on. Alvarez has a way with words that makes reading easy and fun. (...)

Positively Fifth Street
If you like poker, this is a book for you. In 2000, author James McManus went to Las Vegas, working for Harper’s Magazine. His job was to write an article on the World Series of Poker and the Ted Binion murder case, which were both taking place. (...)

Dan Brown Writing Style

Digital Fortress
Another great one by Dan Brown, but ranks 3rd of the three I’ve read so far. This one is a thriller based around the Cryptology department of the NSA. One of the agency’s former employees has created an unbreakable encryption algorithm and threatens to release it to the world if the NSA does not let the country know about their super code breaking computer. (...)

Angels & Demons
Another great book by Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code. I read the majority of the book on the flights to and from Sacramento, and finished up the rest last night. It was another page turner with a lot of suspense. Just like the previous book I read by Brown there was a lot of code breaking which I really liked. (...)

Halo: The Flood
Great book if you liked the XBOX game Halo, but then again, who doesn’t like that game? As I was reading the book I could recall the exact places in the game that they were mentioning. It makes me want to beat the game again (for like the 5th time). What I really liked about the book was that I learned about all of the action that happened away from Master Chief on the planet Halo. (...)

Halo: The Fall Of Reach
If you are a fan of the XBOX game Halo then this book is for you. It is the first in a series of books based on the video game. I really liked how it fills in all of the gaps in the story. The Fall of Reach explains what happened up until the opening sequences of the game. You learn where Master Chief came from and how he became such a kickass soldier. (...)

Page 23
Jeremy told me to: Grab the nearest book. Open the book to page 23. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these 4 instructions. She zoomed in on the subject to get a better look. Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund (...)
The Da Vinci Code
I finished reading “The Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown last night. It is easily the best book I’ve ever read. I’m not a big reader, so that might not be saying much for me, but it has also been a hot item on best seller lists. It only took me 4 days to read the book (compared to the one day that elapses from start to finish of the story), which is an amazing feat for me. (...)

Buy And Sell
During the break in TV coverage of the NCAA tournament I ran downtown to take care of a few things. I traded in 2 XBOX games, Rainbox Six 3 and SSX 3. I put the trade-in value towards a reservation for Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, which is due out on the 24th. It’s going to be a sweet game. (...)

Barry Sanders: Now You See Him
I just finished reading this. What a great book! Barry Sanders is my favorite athlete to ever play a professional sport and I believe he is the greatest running back in history. He was the definition of a team player on the field and an amazing human being off it. He never cared about breaking records or personal achievements while playing. (...)
