Wearing my Michigan football polo shirt today. They played a great game yesterday. The score doesn’t reflect how much they dominated the game because of a few turnovers at the goal line. (...)

Pistol: The Life of Pete Maravich

Published on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 at 5:43pm.

“Pistol” Pete Maravich was the greatest college basketball player to ever play the game. The “Pistol” was a guard and he averaged over 40 points a game throughout college before there was ever a 3 point line. He had a great shot and actually made a lot of shots which would have easily been worth 3 points in today’s game. (...)

Former Duke Players Recognized As Good Sports

Published on Thursday, May 3rd, 2007 at 12:05pm.

Luol Deng, who played a year of college basketball for Duke University, was awarded the NBA sportsmanship award. Of the 5 other divisional winners for the award, Shane Battier and Elton Brand also played for Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils. Three out of six isn’t too bad! (...)

With John Beilein coming to coach the University of Michigan, maybe we can get excited about something other than football again. He did a great job at West Virginia. (...)

Marching On

Published on Wednesday, March 15th, 2006 at 2:04pm.

I love the month of March for two reasons. March Madness and the coming of warmer Michigan weather. The month of March is heaven for college basketball fans and NCAA bball just happens to be my favorite sport to watch. The teamwork, intensity, atmosphere, and everything about the game draws me in. Magical Madness

Published on Tuesday, April 5th, 2005 at 10:36am.

Last night #2 North Carolina beat top ranked Illinois 75-70 in the NCAA Championship game. UNC led by 13 at half and was up by as much as 15 in the 2nd half, but Illinois fought back to make for an exciting finish to the best March Madness in history. Words can’t even describe how special it was watching college kids battle on the basketball court for the past three weeks. (...)

Blue March

Published on Sunday, March 13th, 2005 at 7:28pm.

My favorite college basketball team, the Duke Blue Devils, won the ACC tournament today for the 6th time in the last 7 years (lost the title game in OT last year). What’s remarkable about the win is that they didn’t make a field goal for the final 11 minutes of the game, until Sheldon Williams had a tip-in with 3 seconds left. (...)

Hail To The Victors

Published on Sunday, October 31st, 2004 at 11:09am.

The Michigan Wolverines hosted the Michigan State Spartans yesterday in the state’s greatest football rivalry. It was the greatest Michigan games I’ve ever watched. The team with the greatest fight song and most recognizable helmets in football came out on top 45-37 in a thrilling 3 OT game. MSU jumped out to the early 7-0 lead on a 72 yard TD run and went into halftime leading 17-0. (...)

NCAA Basketball Top 25

Published on Monday, October 18th, 2004 at 1:54pm.

ESPN.com has 4 ACC teams ranked in their preseason top 10 and Duke in the next group at #14. Think the ACC doesn’t dominate college basketball? Think again. I was disappointed when Luol Deng went pro and one of the top high school players in the country decided to pass up Duke for the NBA, but they still have a good nucleus of talent. J.J. (...)

The End Of March Madness

Published on Tuesday, April 6th, 2004 at 12:04pm.

March Madness came to an end last night with the University of Connecticut winning the championship over Georgia Tech. It wasn’t much of a game as UConn led the whole way and the 82-73 final score only looks somewhat close because GT hit about a million three pointers in the final minute. Not to discredit the UConn win, but GT didn’t play very well in the game. (...)

I Love Spring

Published on Tuesday, March 30th, 2004 at 3:22pm.

Is there any better time of the year than spring? Not for me. The sun comes out from hiding, the snow melts, the grass changes from brown to green, and you can feel the air getting warmer as each day passes. Spring also has that distinct smell that can’t compete with any other season. Everyone seems to be happier and more up-beat during the spring. (...)

March MADNESS

Published on Sunday, March 21st, 2004 at 9:42pm.

It has been one hell of an NCAA Tournament so far, and it’s only the first weekend! We’ve seen two number 1 seeds fall, Stanford (ESPN’s pick to win it all) and Kentucky (Dick Vitale’s pick to win it all). Duke (my pick) is one of the few teams to dominate both of their games. I don’t remember ever seeing so many close games in the first two rounds. (...)

March Madness

Tomorrow marks the beginning of March Madness. The NCAA Men’s College basketball tournament. The Big Dance! It is my favorite sporting event of the year. I’ll be spending a lot of time over the next few weeks in front of the TV or checking scores at work. I’ve filled out my bracket and I have to admit that it was the toughest year that I can recall for making picks. (...)

Duke Beats UNC Again

Published on Sunday, March 7th, 2004 at 12:03am.

Wow…WOW…what a great game! It was back and forth the whole game. I think the biggest lead either team had was 6 points. Duke came out on top 70-65 in one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports. Luol Deng, coming off the worst game of his freshmen year, played phenomenal. He had a career high of 25 points on 12-16 shooting and took over at one point during the second half. (...)

Basketball Exam

Published on Thursday, March 4th, 2004 at 11:40am.

Why are so many kids jumping straight from high school to the NBA these days? Is it because they are that good? For a few, yes, but for most, it is because they are too dumb to be able to be able to pass college classes and maintain their eligibility. Today the University of Georgia released documents relating to NCAA rules violations by their basketball program. (...)

Complete Exhaustion

Published on Saturday, January 17th, 2004 at 8:28pm.

Being at a visitation and a funeral may make for the most exhausting two days a person can handle. I spent about 4-5 hours at the funeral home yesterday and then we were leaving the house at 8 this morning to head out to the church for the funeral. After the brunch, we were finally on the way home at about 1 o’clock. (...)

A Piece Of History

Published on Sunday, December 14th, 2003 at 2:02am.

Yesterday, my dad, brother, and I were a part of basketball history. We attended the BasketBowl at Ford Field, where Michigan State lost to Kentucky 79-74, in front of 78,129 people; the largest crowd in basketball history (at any level of play). I bought the tickets as Christmas gifts to them and we had a good time. (...)

Duke Smoked Michigan State

The Blue Devils really put it to the Spartans tonight! What a great game to watch for a Duke fan (me). Jeff came over, we got some pizza, had a few beers, and watched the game on the big screen. Only another week and a half and I’ll be at Ford Field for the biggest basketball game in history (over 75,000 tickets sold) when MSU and Kentucky play. (...)

GO BLUE!

Published on Saturday, November 22nd, 2003 at 3:57pm.

Michigan whooped on Ohio State 35-21 this afternoon. Now all of the John Navarre critics can finally shut up, because he has played well all season. The season is far from over. Will Chris Perry be considered for the Heisman? Will LSU and USC lose, allowing Michigan a chance at Oklahoma in the National Championship? We’ll have to wait and see. (...)
