Former Duke Players Recognized As Good Sports

Published on Thursday, May 3rd, 2007 at 12:05pm.

Luol Deng, who played a year of college basketball for Duke University, was awarded the NBA sportsmanship award. Of the 5 other divisional winners for the award, Shane Battier and Elton Brand also played for Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils. Three out of six isn’t too bad! (...)

Blue March

Published on Sunday, March 13th, 2005 at 7:28pm.

My favorite college basketball team, the Duke Blue Devils, won the ACC tournament today for the 6th time in the last 7 years (lost the title game in OT last year). What’s remarkable about the win is that they didn’t make a field goal for the final 11 minutes of the game, until Sheldon Williams had a tip-in with 3 seconds left. (...)

NCAA Basketball Top 25

Published on Monday, October 18th, 2004 at 1:54pm.

ESPN.com has 4 ACC teams ranked in their preseason top 10 and Duke in the next group at #14. Think the ACC doesn’t dominate college basketball? Think again. I was disappointed when Luol Deng went pro and one of the top high school players in the country decided to pass up Duke for the NBA, but they still have a good nucleus of talent. J.J. (...)

The End Of March Madness

Published on Tuesday, April 6th, 2004 at 12:04pm.

March Madness came to an end last night with the University of Connecticut winning the championship over Georgia Tech. It wasn’t much of a game as UConn led the whole way and the 82-73 final score only looks somewhat close because GT hit about a million three pointers in the final minute. Not to discredit the UConn win, but GT didn’t play very well in the game. (...)

My Week…

Published on Sunday, March 28th, 2004 at 10:07am.

I haven’t been updating regularly lately so I thought I’d do a little catching up… On Wednesday I signed a lease for a 2 bedroom duplex so I no longer have to worry about finding a place to live. It’s a nice relief. (...)

March MADNESS

Published on Sunday, March 21st, 2004 at 9:42pm.

It has been one hell of an NCAA Tournament so far, and it’s only the first weekend! We’ve seen two number 1 seeds fall, Stanford (ESPN’s pick to win it all) and Kentucky (Dick Vitale’s pick to win it all). Duke (my pick) is one of the few teams to dominate both of their games. I don’t remember ever seeing so many close games in the first two rounds. (...)

Duke Beats UNC Again

Published on Sunday, March 7th, 2004 at 12:03am.

Wow…WOW…what a great game! It was back and forth the whole game. I think the biggest lead either team had was 6 points. Duke came out on top 70-65 in one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports. Luol Deng, coming off the worst game of his freshmen year, played phenomenal. He had a career high of 25 points on 12-16 shooting and took over at one point during the second half. (...)

This And That

Published on Sunday, February 22nd, 2004 at 5:35pm.

Went out to an 80’s bar last night with a few friends and ended up staying until closing time. As a result I’m feeling a little “under the weather” today. The bar is pretty cool…they have a big screen TV that they play videos on while the song is playing, so you get the feeling that you’re back in the day, listening to some of the music we grew up on. (...)

Instant Classic

Published on Thursday, February 5th, 2004 at 11:31pm.

Duke vs. North Carolina. The greatest rivalry in college basketball. Tonight’s game was at North Carolina and it was an awesome game. The Duke Blue Devils will be driving back home to Durham, North Carolina as a team that has won 16 straight games and holds onto the #1 ranking in the country. It was a great game to watch and will be an ESPN Instant Classic. (...)

Complete Exhaustion

Published on Saturday, January 17th, 2004 at 8:28pm.

Being at a visitation and a funeral may make for the most exhausting two days a person can handle. I spent about 4-5 hours at the funeral home yesterday and then we were leaving the house at 8 this morning to head out to the church for the funeral. After the brunch, we were finally on the way home at about 1 o’clock. (...)

Duke Smoked Michigan State

Published on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2003 at 11:29pm.

The Blue Devils really put it to the Spartans tonight! What a great game to watch for a Duke fan (me). Jeff came over, we got some pizza, had a few beers, and watched the game on the big screen. Only another week and a half and I’ll be at Ford Field for the biggest basketball game in history (over 75,000 tickets sold) when MSU and Kentucky play. (...)
